Keswick Hall Sold to Undisclosed Buyer

January 6, 2012

Keswick Hall in Albemarle County has been sold. The announcement came Thursday afternoon in the form of a letter to club members from general manager Matthias Smith.

The ownership group of the award-winning luxury hotel, Orient Express Hotels Ltd., has entered into a purchase agreement with an undisclosed buyer, according to a statement from their London office.

Orient Express will continue to operate Keswick Hall, Keswick Club and Keswick Estate until the sale is complete, which is expected to be by the end of the month.

"I can say that the potential new owners are immensely committed to the long term success and growth of Keswick," Smith said in the statement.

According to The Hook, the new owner will be William H. "Bill" Goodwin Jr., a businessman and philanthropist who owns the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond and resorts in Hilton Head and Kiawah Island.

Whoever takes over will be getting one of Albemarle County's and the nation's finest hotels. Keswick was recently named one of the best hotels in the world by Condé Nast Traveler.
