Despite the lack of a new library, Albemarle County officials Tuesday announced the official opening of the new Library Avenue in Crozet.
Library Avenue, known as new Main Street in the Crozet Master Plan, intersects Crozet Avenue and joins the alley which runs behind The Square shopping center in downtown Crozet.
The two-lane road is approximately 400 feet long and will provide better connectivity within downtown Crozet. The stretch of road will also provide access to the soon-to-be- constructed 58-space parking lot associated with the planned Crozet Library.
“We are very pleased to be opening this section of roadway in Crozet that will be immediately helpful in providing connectivity in downtown and will eventually be a valuable multi-modal road serving the wider Crozet community,” said County Executive Tom Foley.
Library Avenue is a transportation element of the Crozet Master Plan. It includes bike lanes, lighting and sidewalks, making the area more pedestrian and bike-friendly.
