New Cider Pub Under Construction in Nelson County

October 23, 2011

Just in time for winter, a new cider pub is being built in Virginia.

John Washburn is currently building the first phase of his cidery on property along Va. 151 in Nelson County. The building will house a cidery and tasting room while the larger cidery and pub restaurant are in construction.

The News & Advance reports that Bold Rock Cidery is expected to produce cider by Christmas.

Hard cider is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented apple juice. Making hard cider involved crushing thousands of bushels of apples, which are going to come from the orchards right in Nelson County.

Washburn recruited world-famous cider maker Brian Shanks to help create his cider. He has worked with cideries in New Zealand, Australia, China and Great Britain.
