Portraits of Endangered Animals Hung Around Downtown Mall

May 20, 2014

A new, outdoor exhibit went up around Charlottesville’s Downtown today, just look up in the trees.

Forty animal photographs are on display throughout the Downtown Mall. The images are part of a project by National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore.

Sartore is on a mission to take a picture of every single endangered species on Earth; something some local organizers say is good for raising awareness about endangered animals.

"If we don’t bring awareness to these endangered species, then nothing is going to happen to help their conservation,” says Chloe Delaney, LOOK3. “It’s a plea for conservation. It’s a plea for attention."

The portraits were installed Tuesday morning, and will be up through July.

Sartore will speak about his work at the Paramount Theater on June 18th. Click on the link on the side to more about the event, as well as to purchase tickets.
