CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- On Sunday, the Portico Church in Charlottesville hosted a Repair Cafe, an event that allowed locals to bring old or broken items to be fixed.
"It's not only getting those annoying things out of your basement that you just don't want to have sit around anymore," said Ann Marie Hohenberger, the Repair Cafe Event Coordinator. "But it's saving those things from having to go to the landfill."
There were people fixing non electrical items like bikes, clothes, and wooden furniture, as well as people fixing electrical appliances like vacuums, toasters, and clocks. Organizers said that the event also helps people save money.
"It prevents you from spending the money you would have used on replacing it, so the trash factor and the money factor are kind of the two biggest things," said Hohenberger.
The event lasted about two hours.
