Republican Senator Ted Cruz made a stop by Larry Sabato’s Intro to Politics class Wednesday on UVa’s grounds. The Senator from Texas gave a two minute speech on economic growth and fighting back for our constitutional liberties, and then opened the floor up for questions from the class.

Students asked Sen. Cruz for his thoughts on immigration reform, Russia, ways to get the GOP vote and minimum wage.

On the subject of minimum wage Sen. Cruz says that he feels jobs would be eliminated by the minimum wage hike. He says he doesn’t think it’s a good idea.

Sen. Cruz also spoke about Obamacare. He says he would’ve allowed people to buy health insurance across state lines and eliminate the link between health care and employment.

“Millions of Americans have lost their jobs because of Obamacare, millions of Americans have been forced into part time work because of Obamacare, and over six million Americans have had their health care cancelled because of Obamacare,” says Sen. Cruz (R). “We need to start over.”

“We need to reform health care so that we empower patients and consumers,” says Sen. Cruz. “We need to make health care policies personal, portable and affordable.”

He says Washington D.C. should acknowledge that Obamacare isn't working.

Before today's speech at UVa Sen. Cruz spoke at Liberty University; also speaking on health care.
