When you think of barbecues, you think of cooking outdoors with grills using charcoal or gas.

One local group called Transition Charlottesville used the heat from the sun to prepare their meals outdoors.

The group held a a fossil fuel free feast and summer party in Washington Park in town. Solar cookers were on hand to demonstrate how to bake outdoors using the sun's heat.

The event also featured activities like a three-legged race, acoustic music, frisbee, in addition to the food.

Attendees could bring a potluck dish to share and challenge themselves to creatively prepare food without fossil fuels.

Charlottesville Tonight's photojournalist Mike Fisch has more on the "Sun Ovens."
