Training First Responders to Get People Out of Late Model Cars

RUCKERSVILLE, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- First responders from eight fire departments will be participating a a hands-on program dealing with extricating victims from accidents involving late model vehicles.

The Tuesday event at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Vehicle Research Center will feature a crash test demonstration and then an extrication session.

Recent advancements in vehicle technology include high strength steels, sophisticated electronics and multiple airbag systems.

So having first responders who know how to efficiently get people out of such vehicles can save lives as well as improve safety for the responders.

Representatives from Fort Belvoir Fire and Rescue, Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department, Fairfax City Fire Department, Ruckersville Fire Company, Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, Albemarle Fire and Rescue, Orange Volunteer Fire Company, and Richardsville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad will be participating.
