RICHMOND, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- One person was hospitalized and hundreds lost power following a series of underground explosions in Richmond.

According to WTVR, multiple booms were heard near the intersection of 6th and Main streets in downtown Richmond around 11:15 a.m. Friday.

A Dominion Virginia Power spokesperson says an explosion and fire occurred in underground electrical facilities.

In a Dominion tweet, it's called an underground cable failure.

One Dominion lineman was taken to an area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Almost 400 people lost power, but Dominion reports all customers had power restored around 3:30 p.m.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
