The Albemarle chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) held a memorial on Saturday at the Confederate cemetery at UVa.

They gathered honoring fallen soldiers with songs and salutes to both the Virginia and Confederate flags.

The goal of the ceremony was to remember the Confederate soldiers who fought in the Civil War.

“We have to remember our heritage and keep teaching it to the younger generation that this is what it takes to have our freedom,” says Eleanor Page Price, Vice President of the Virginia division of the UDC. You have to give your all to be a country as we are today.

There are more than 1,000 Confederate soldiers buried at the cemetery on UVa's grounds.
