Wegmans announces opening date for Charlottesville store

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (NEWSPLEX) -- An official opening date has been announced for the Wegmans at Fifth Street Station.

The store will open on Nov. 6 at 7 a.m.

Of the expected 550 employees, 500 will be new hires and from the local community. The store is currently hiring and training for 350 part-time positions in every department.

It is also recruiting 200 full-time employees, and more than 100 have already been hired.

Store manager Chris DePumpo said, while the store opening is still six months away, nearly 3,000 people have applied for a job at the new store, and many full-time hires are already at work in other Wegmans locations.

"I don't think it's fully understood that we invest millions of dollars in training our folks, so right now we're bringing people on board and they began training last week," said DePumpo.

Wegmans pays travel and meals during training. Part-timers will also start training long before the store opens.

Applicants are encouraged to apply online or call (877) 934-6267, option 4, for more information.

Applications are not available or accepted at the construction site.
