ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (NEWSPLEX) -- Dozens of women came together Thursday for a good cause, and three organizations are saying thank you to them.

The Women United in Philanthropy held its tenth annual luncheon, at which it gave away $60,000, the most money the group has ever donated.

The money was given as grants to Charlottesville Works, Foothills Child Advocacy Center and City of Promise.

Event organizers say the money will be put to good use.

“To be able to come together as local women to support local causes is going to be able to make an exponential impact on this community,” said Brooke Jenkins, co-chair for Women United. “Each organization has so many different things they are going to be able to now do thanks to these women coming together."

The organizations are picked by the group and offer a variety of services for people of all ages in the area.
