Wahoos hang on to complete 13-2 homestand
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- A day after winning with a comfortable 19-run cushion, the Virginia baseball team needed every run it could scrape across the plate on Wednesday.
UVA ended its 15-game homestand by holding on for a 4-3 victory against UMass Lowell on Wednesday. After winning 13 of those 15 games at Disharoon Park, the 14-4 Wahoos will head to Pitt for their first ACC road series this weekend.

The Wahoos were limited to just six hits as a team on Wednesday -- three from first-year center fielder Chris Newell, who raised his batting average to .407 on the season -- but got go-ahead RBI singles from both Max Cotier in the seventh inning, then Logan Michaels in the eighth inning.
Closer Stephen Schoch (1-0) picked up his first UVA win after escaping bases loaded jams in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Wednesday's game was played in front of almost 1,000 local kids and their teachers, as part of UVA's first-ever 'Field Trip Day' at Disharoon Park.
