CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Virginia-based program has been nominated for an award.

Virginia Humanities says its History United Program has been nominated for an American Civic Collaboration Award, or Civvy.

According to a release, these awards are the only national awards program that is dedicated to celebrating projects emphasizing working together across divides to strengthen communities and empower citizens.

Programs that are nominated are recognized for leveraging collaboration as a core strength, as well as putting community and nation before party, ideology, and interests.

This is the fourth year for the Civvys, and there are a record number of nominations associated with work from 2020 across the national, Local and Youth categories.

The release says this year’s awards are also focusing on efforts by and for communities of color and those supporting a more diverse, equitable and inclusive America.

History United is a partnership between Virginia Humanities and the Danville Regional Foundation.

It uses local history to encourage investment in the Dan River Region, building a network of organizations and people who are committed to positive change.

“It is an amazing experience to be recognized for bringing people together for honest conversations in a time like this,” says Chad Martin, History United’s program director. “History United is always looking for ways to lift up partnerships and our community.”
