CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) --  Cultivate Charlottesville’s Food Justice Network has launched a 24/7 food security text line. The text line is available in both English and Spanish and provides direct food resource information to residents of the City of Charlottesville and surrounding counties, including Albemarle, Augusta, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson.

The Food Security Text Line was built in response to feedback from community members. Cultivate Charlottesville says there is confusion surrounding changes to food access support, including changing hours and availability due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program provides information on more than 35 available food pantries and other food resources.

"This text messaging line was created to provide a more direct avenue for folks to navigate all the information, because there is a lot of information, we actually do have a lot of food pantries and food resources, but they're all open at different times, different days of the week, and so navigating that information can be hard," said Daisy Mosqueda, UVA Equity and Environment Fund Fellow at the Food Justice Network.

Individuals can text "FOOD" or "COMIDA" to (844) 947-6518 for information about food resources near their current zip code. Information is available in English and Spanish.
