Little girl holds lemonade stand to buy stuffed animals for kids in need
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The holiday season isn't over yet. A six-year-old girl is gearing up for what she's calling "Christmas in July."
The young entrepreneur, Natalie Rose Yates, raised money to buy stuffed animals for kids in the community by holding a lemonade stand in front of Angelic's Kitchen Soul Food Eatery and food truck.
"My brother's making the lemonade and my cousin Carter is counting the money," she said.
The lemonade, which Yates said was made from "lemons and love," sold for $1 per cup, but the money isn't going into her own pockets.
"Natalie came to me and said she wanted to sell 100 stuffed animals, or toys, to kids, so we decided to earn money by selling lemonade," said Yates's grandmother, Angelic Jenkins. "She's going to do 'Christmas in July' and hand out 100 stuffed animals to kids in the community."
Yates saw her grandmother buying clothes for the homeless and became inspired to do something for people in need, too.
Jenkins is an entrepreneur herself as she's the owner of Angelic's Kitchen.
"As leaders, as adults, the kids learn from us, and they watch what we do," Jenkins said.
Yates says helping out feels good.
"I feel nice and happy and like a sunflower," she said.
They'll work with City of Promise to figure out which kids to donate the stuffed animals to, and Angelic's Kitchen will match half of whatever Yates makes from her lemonade stand.
"Do something that makes a difference in the world," Jenkins said.
The giveaway will be at some point in July. Angelic's Kitchen also posted a fundraising link on its Facebook page for those who were unable to visit the lemonade stand on Wednesday.
