Youngkin visits delegates in Albemarle County
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin visited Michael's Diner in Albemarle County ahead of Saturday's Republican nominating convention.
Youngkin, the former CEO of the Carlyle Group, has never run for political office. He took time Wednesday morning to speak with delegates about his platform and ideas he would implement as governor.
He was joined Wednesday morning by Delegate John McGuire, who represents Louisa County as well as parts of Goochland, Henrico, and Spotsylvania counties, and former Albemarle County Commonwealth's Attorney Robert Tracci.
Youngkin says he will open schools in-person five days a week if elected governor. He also expressed support for election reform, including mandatory photo identification to vote.
"I've got a 30-year business career, I know business, I know how to create jobs, I know how to get things done, I know how to deliver results, not make empty promises like career politicians do, then they turn around again and ask you for your vote," he said.
He discussed plans and commitment to electing Republican candidates at all levels of government, from municipal all the way up to federal positions.
The Republican Nominating Convention will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at more than 30 locations across Virginia.
