CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- People looking to get a COVID-19 test from a Blue Ridge Health District site can now register online.

According to a release, BRHD is implementing several improvements to make the COVID-19 testing and resulting more efficient.

These updates are only for testing sites at the BRHD's individual health departments and the site in the parking lot of the former JC Penney at Fashion Square Mall.

People who want to get a test can register here for an appointment at a specific site and on a specific day.

The release says the specific links to register will change each week for each site, so there is no need to save an individual link.

However, by bookmarking the BRHD testing website, people will have easier access to the upcoming sites.

When registering, people will need to enter personal information and then select a time slot on a second page. These time slots are available in 30-minute windows.

BRHD says it is important for people to arrive during their selected window of time and it is recommended to include a phone number that can accept text messages and an email address when registering so that they can get their results and documentation easier.

If more than one person in a family needs to be tested, each one will need register individually, but BRHD will work to accommodate the whole vehicle even if testing appointments are at different times.

When test results are available, a text message will be sent to the provided phone number. That message will direct recipients to a secure Virginia Department of Health website where people can view and print their results.

In order to access the results, people will need to verify their identity. Results should be available within 72 hours.

Anyone who has questions or who does not receive their results after 72 hours can call the COVID-19 hotline at (434) 972-6261.

These changes do not impact testing sites operated by the University of Virginia Health System.
