Albemarle County workers get pay raise, first responders get $3,000 bonus
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Extra funds will be landing in the pockets of Albemarle County government workers soon since all county employees are getting a six percent pay raise this year.
The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors said it's part of its effort to make working for the county competitive.
Law enforcement officers and fire and rescue employees are also getting a $3,000 bonus.
Scottsville District Supervisor Donna Price said the bonuses will be funded with the American Rescue Plan Act Money.
"We are facing a substantial number of retirements this year. I mean, they are referring to this as the great resignation. And so what we need to do is immediately give this money to our first responders because they need it first," said Price.
The bonuses will hit the banks of those who are already on the payroll as well as anyone who signs on with the Albemarle County Police Department or the Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue within the next year.
Price said they still have about four vacancies within the departments left to fill.
