CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- On Friday afternoon, the CBS19 News team teamed up with the Salvation Army for its Red Kettle Campaign.

The campaign runs all the way until Christmas, but Major Walter Strong with the Salvation Army says the money collected will help long past the holiday season.

“Take care of our Christmas needs food, the toys we buy, clothing we buy to give out to those we help in town, and then what's left over helps our programs year-round," he said. "Our soup kitchen our shelter and our emergency services programs.”

As of Dec. 10, the Salvation Army is down $5,000 from last year. There is still time to donate.
