CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- After deadly tornadoes left a trail of destruction through six states, some local Red Cross volunteers are deploying to impacted areas.

There are 11 Red Cross volunteers from Virginia deployed to aid in recovery efforts, all with one mission to help. Three are from Charlottesville.

Local Red Cross volunteer Bill Brent is the deputy assistant director of response with his crew being sent to Mayfield, Kentucky. As he was leaving to catch his flight Tuesday afternoon, he said he was feeling a range of emotions on his 39th deployment.

“I'm just privileged that I can be part of that effort,” Brent said.

Brent’s crew will likely be away from home during the holidays while helping communities heal. However, he said being able to help others fulfills him.

“Getting out and serving people when they need you most is what fills my soul and gets me energy to do what I come back and do here and with an incredible community of support because I couldn't go if this community didn't support us,” he said.
