CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Cavalier Diner located on Emmett Street will close its doors at its current location for good on Jan. 30.

Longtime customer Nancy Carver says she's heartbroken by the news.

"I wanted to cry. It's sad. It's really sad," Carver said.

Other customers say it's not just your regular diner, it's a second home.

"We don't eat out much unless we come here," Michelle Miller said.

"It's breakfast every Sunday," Susan Mobley said.

"There's a lot of rage, like family. A lot of laughs, a lot of rage, family," waitress Carolyn Andrews said.

She has been a waitress at the diner for two and a half years. She says she's unsure of what her future holds.

"I need a husband, a new dog, and a job,” Andrews joked.

Diner owner Aristea Vlavianos says she and her husband Sal have been running the diner for the past 12 years, and closing is not their choice.

"The building was sold and the new landlord does not want a restaurant in here. He wants to do something retail. I'm not sure what," Vlavianos said.

She says her family has been serving up meals in Charlottesville for four decades, and she loves it.

"I've met people all over the world, all over the country. The stories that I've heard, the friendships that I've made, is what really has made it so worthwhile,” Vlavianos said.

She says this isn't the end for the Cavalier Diner.

"I'm too young to retire, so I'm hoping to find a new location that will put up with me for five, six, seven years," Vlavianos said.

"She needs to stay open,” Miller said.

“We need to find a place for her to go," Mobley added.

Vlavianos says they’re currently looking at new locations located in the Albemarle and Charlottesville area. She says once she finds the right spot, she will make it known to the public.
