FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- High school seniors in the Lake Monticello area could win a new scholarship for helping out in the community.

It’s an opportunity for students who actively volunteer in Fluvanna County.

The Lake Monticello Community Foundation wants to show appreciation for these students with a $1,500 scholarship.

The money can be used at any college, trade school, police academy or other facility.

The foundation says it is always in need of volunteers and hopes this new program will inspire students to keep helping out in their community.

“We hope that this $1,500 scholarship will encourage that,” said Mike Feazel with the Lake Monticello Community Foundation. “And we hope that someday, maybe in the future, we can offer more scholarships and help more kids become volunteers.”

Students must have completed at least 50 hours of community service in order to be eligible.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 28. For more information, click here.
