CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Botanical Garden of the Piedmont received a big donation that will help further develop the project.

The garden was gifted $1.5 million, which will allow it to create a plan to showcase the natural beauty of Central Virginia with a new Children's Garden, an area for wetlands and aquatic gardens, and a parking lot.

Carol Carter, the garden's Board President, says the generous donor is Dr. Carol Angle, who likes to support gardens and is anxious to have a beautiful botanical garden in Charlottesville.

"This gift will help in developing the garden's newly acquired land, which was granted through a recent land lease agreement made by the Charlottesville City Council," she said. "According to the garden's newsletter, the agreement increased the size to 14.74 acres and keeps ownership of the infrastructure with the garden. This allows the garden more freedom and flexibility with the design and programs."

The garden is located in the area of Melbourne Road and John Warner Parkway.
