Cavaliers stay unbeaten in ACC with upset of Wake Forest
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (CBS19 Sports) -- The top two teams in the ACC, (8) Wake Forest and (11) Virginia faced of on Sunday at the Boar's Head Sports Club, and the Cavaliers ran away with the 4-1 win.
Virginia and Wake Forest both entered Sunday undefeated in ACC play, as UVA moves to 8-0 in the conference.
After dropping five straight matches to some of the nation's top teams in February, Virginia is now on a nine-match win streak.
"We learned a lot in the month of February," said UVA men's tennis coach Andres Pedroso. "We were points away from beating pretty much all of those teams, we learned a lot, we made some adjustments, grew as a team, individually. It was a great month for us. Despite the five losses in a row it was a great month and today I think you're seeing a little of that hard work pay off."
The Cavaliers opened play with the doubles point, followed by singles wins from senior Ryan Goetz on court four, sophomore Chris Rodesch on court one and sophomore Iñaki Montes on court two, who clinched the match for UVA.
"Those matches helped us to come together, come closer, become closer, train harder and I think it's paying off," said UVA sophomore tennis player Iñaki Montes. "It's March and the most important thing is ACC and NCAAs so we gotta keep it up, keep practicing hard and lets see. I believe in this team."
Virginia travels to (12) Kentucky on Thursday, March 31st.
