Global Roots Project mural coming to IX Art Park
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A local attraction will be the home of a special mural starting next month.
The IX Art Park has been selected as the location for the America Connects National Mural, which will be unveiled during the Charlottesville Arts Festival on May 27.
According to a release, this mural is the next in a series of international mural mosaics, featuring tiles painted by more than 1,500 people from across the United States.
It is put together by the international Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project, which announced the selection of IX on Tuesday.
The Global Roots Project aims to bring together residents from across the country to contribute tiles to a single large-scale mural design.
The release says the American Connects National Mural will be the only location of a Global Roost Project installation in the U.S., and it will show a tree of life growing from the word “Love” in a nod to Virginia’s famous slogan, Virginia is for Lovers.
More than 50 tiles have been donated to the Charlottesville community, with 10 completed by the Boys and Girls Club of Cherry Avenue during a weekly after-school program inside the Looking Glass.
“The Ix Art Park Foundation is over the moon to receive the America Connects National Mural Mosaic this May as part of our Charlottesville Arts Festival,” Executive Director Alex Bryant said. “As we believe that everyone is creative and deserves the right to express their creativity, we could not have planned a better collaboration and reflection of our core truths.”
The Charlottesville Arts Festival is a three-day celebration of creativity, diversity and community in the city and surrounding areas.
There will be vendors, artmaking, demonstrations, workshops, fire dancers and much more.
