CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Front Porch hosted what it called an "Instrument Petting Zoo" on the Downtown Mall on Saturday.

This type of petting zoo involves musical instruments instead of animals.

During these events, The Front Porch brings out its musical instruments and lets kids of all ages play and try instruments like the guitar, fiddle, ukulele, and even bongos.

Emily Morrison, the Executive Director of The Front Porch, says it's all about children having fun and being exposed to different types of rhythm and musical instruments.

"Research shows music impacts the brain and the heart in lots of ways. The younger the kids start playing music, the better," said Morrison.

Another Instrument Petting Zoo will be taking place on May 14 on the Downtown Mall.
