ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Orange County School Board is already taking steps to act on a new state law concerning sexually explicit content in classrooms.

During a meeting on Monday, a draft resolution was presented that would require schools to notify parents of involvement in decisions the board says affect students’ well-being including self-identification.

This would be in compliance with Senate Bill 656, which requires local school boards to implement policies for parental notification of sexually explicit content.

The law passed during the regular General Assembly session earlier this year, and will not go into effect until July 1.

The school board is also considering a resolution concerning “divisive content.”

This is part of the ongoing public discussion concerning Critical Race Theory in public schools, which the Virginia Department of Education has said is not taught in the Commonwealth’s public schools.

There will probably be public comment regarding both of these resolutions in the next meeting on the schedule, which is set for May 9.
