CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Charlottesville native will be among the Peace Corps volunteers heading to Africa.

The Peace Corps is an international service group made up of volunteers and community members in different countries with projects focusing on education, health, youth development and more.

Sarah McKee will be an HIV educator and will help train and teach school teachers to help decrease the HIV rate in female adolescents in Zambia.

"I have been supporting projects for two years from these four walls behind my desk. Projects in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia," she said. "I feel like now is a good time and with all the Peace Corps volunteers going back after the COVID vaccination, it is just the perfect time."

McKee will be arriving in Zambia on May 7 and will be there for a year.
