Shellenberger headlines eight Virginia USILA All-Americans
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Connor Shellenberger nabbed first team USILA All-American honors for the second straight year to lead eight Virginia players selected.
Shellenberger was joined by defenseman Cole Kastner (second team), Matt Moore and Petey LaSalla (third team), while Payton Cormier, Jeff Conner, Cade Saustad and Grayson Sallade were all honorable mention selections. All except Moore will return to UVA for the 2023 season.
The Tewaaraton Award Finalist, Shellenberger led the Cavaliers in points (76) and assists (44), while finishing second on the team in goals (32). The St. Anne's-Belfield alum has earned first team All-American and All-ACC honors in both of his first two seasons with Virginia.
Kastner followed a breakthrough postseason as a freshman by becoming one of the country's top defenseman as a sophomore. The 6'7" long pole was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and also earned second team All-American honors from Inside Lacrosse.
A pair of record-setters represented the Cavaliers as third team All-Americans in Moore and LaSalla. Moore wrapped his five-year career as the program's all-time leader in points scored (277) and a four-time All-American. LaSalla earned his second career All-American honor after becoming the UVA career leader in faceoffs (781) and ground balls (390).
Cormier and Saustad both earned their second career All-American selection, while Conner and Sallade are both first time honorees.
