FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Fluvanna County High School's Special Olympics team is on its way to compete in the U.S. national games.

This will be the first time it competes in the national competition, with three athletes representing Virginia in track and field.

The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office and Lake Monticello Fire Department escorted the team from the school to Richmond on Friday afternoon.

The team will leave for Orlando, Florida on Saturday. The competition will be held in Disney World.

The team will spend time at Disney prior to the competition, which starts on Monday.

Athlete Aaliyah Lewis says been preparing for her relay by staying fit and practicing running.

Lewis says she's looking forward to her first time competing at the U.S. games.

"I am not nervous about the track, but I am very excited about going and having fun with all of my friends," said Lewis.
