CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- If you want to go swimming at one of Charlottesville’s pools, better check the hours first.

The Charlottesville Department of Parks and Recreation says it has had to adjust the hours of operation at its outdoor pools.

According to a release, this is due to low lifeguard staffing.

Beginning this Saturday, the pools will have an alternating schedule, with one pool open each day.

The Onesty Family Aquatic Center will be open Thursdays through Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Washington Park Pool will be open Sundays through Wednesdays between the same hours.

The city says summer pool passes are valid at both outdoor pools as well as the Smith Aquatic and Fitness Center, which means people are able to use any of the facilities, depending on when they are open.

The spray grounds will continue to be open daily.

The release also says the welcome back daily admission special has been extended until the pools are at full operation.

The city is actively trying to recruit lifeguards. If staffing levels increase high enough to allow both pools to be operating at the same time, the city says the operating hours will be updated.
