CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The University of Virginia Health System held a briefing on Friday, during which it reported that COVID-19 case numbers are beginning to decline again.

Last week, the hospital had 29 cases. Now there are just 17 COVID patients in its care, of whom 14 are acute cases and only two are pediatric cases.

UVA Health specialist Kyle Enfield says while this decline is promising, he expects COVID to continue to be a problem in the future.

“Everyone is pretty certain that next fall and winter, we could see another COVID surge," he said. "But we are anticipating that over the next few months in the summer, we'll see some declines and hopefully, we'll see less transmission both in our state and in our country and in the world.”

Enfield also urges people to continue to get their vaccines.
