Police investigating weekend crash that killed one
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Virginia State Police reports one person was killed in a weekend crash in Cumberland County.
According to police, the crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. Sunday on Anderson Highway just east of the intersection with Blenheim Road.
A 1995 Pontiac Firebird heading west on Anderson Highway crossed into the eastbound lane to pass another vehicle, but as it returned to the westbound lane, it hit a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe that was in front of the vehicle the Pontiac had just passed.
The crash caused the Pontiac to hit the guardrail on the left side of the road, spin around and then hit the guardrail a second time.
The driver of the Pontiac, identified as 31-year-old Dalton G. Stetson of Cumberland, died at the scene.
Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Hyundai was not hurt.
The crash is still under investigation.
