CLARKE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Two people were killed in a Monday afternoon crash in Clark County.

The Virginia State Police reports the crash occurred around 12:10 p.m. on the 15300 block of Lord Fairfax Highway.

Police say a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee heading east on a private road suffered a brake failure, which caused it to enter Lord Fairfax Highway and hit a southbound 2001 Mack truck.

The crash caused both of the vehicles to run off the side of the road and overturn, with the Mack also catching fire.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as 31-year-old Shea E. Hawkins of Winchester, and the driver of the Mack, 66-year-old Lewis E. Thompson of Grottoes, both died at the scene.

Police say both people were wearing their seat belts.

The crash is still under investigation.
