WOODBRIDGE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- CNN says Yesli Vega has won the Republican nomination in Virginia's Seventh Congressional District.

The Tuesday primary saw a very close race, with her and Derrick Anderson switching spots several times.

But as the night wore on, Vega began to develop a lead of more than 1,500 votes.

Vega will face incumbent Congresswoman Abigail in the November General Election.

The Associated Press reports this is expected to be a competitive race that could help to determine control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Vega is the daughter of Salvadoran immigrants who also helped Governor Glenn Youngkin during last year's gubernatorial election when it comes to the Latino and Hispanic vote.
