ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- An Albemarle County road is closed for emergency work.

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Culpeper District says the 6800 block of Free Union Road is closed for emergency repairs to a pipe.

The road closed around 12 p.m. Tuesday and the work could take about 24 hours to complete.

VDOT says crews inspected the road on Monday and found asphalt erosion, with the pipe undergoing an emergency repair during the overnight hours.

When looked at again on Tuesday, it was determined the pipe needed to be replaced entirely.

Drivers will need to take Davis Shop Road, Markwood Road, Simmons Gap Road and Boonesville Road to get around the work.
