CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Before Aaron Stinnie was a Super Bowl champion, he was just a kid from Charlottesville.

“It means a lot, I mean this is my hometown this is what got me my start,” said Stinnie.

The fifth-year Buccaneers guard has worn his hometown like a badge of honor. Now he has returned to give back to the place that has given him so much.

"Once you start to get into the league and you know you're doing things. What you want to be able to do is give back to the community,” Stinnie said. “It's coming from the heart so it's a great thing.”

From the heart to the classroom, kids walked away from the Aaron Stinnie Back to School Giveaway with backpacks, sneakers and haircut vouchers, all items that Stinnie hopes will help ease the burden of a new school year.

“Just help you know take a little weight off their shoulders and then they can focus on you know the schooling,” Stinnie said.

But school supplies aren't the only thing they'll take home; it's Stinnie's story of hard work and resilience that are today's true takeaway.

“The message to them is you know that the world is whatever you want to make it you know as long as you put in that work that effort you can get to wherever you want to go,” Stinnie added.

His journey from St. Anne’s-Belfield to James Madison University and ultimately to Tampa Bay was one of little fan fare.

“There wasn't a lot of hoopla about him, he didn't have the hoopla position,” said Stinnie’s father Phil Stinnie.

His father says it's that mentality that led him to where he is today.

“You know, he has a grind work ethic you know pounding, putting in the work type of position,” said Phil Stinnie. “To get where he's gotten in such a short amount of time showed that hard work pays off.”

It will continue to be that way as Stinnie prepares to battle it out for the starting guard position this coming season.
