'Healthy Streets and Healthy People' event coming up
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- WellAWARE, a community health program that helps underprivileged people live a healthier life, is holding community events to inform the community.
It's called "Healthy Streets and Healthy People."
When referencing the streets, the organization will be talking about crime, drug prevention, and mental health resources.
"The pandemic kind of showed the value of community health workers that people respond better to people they get, people they like, and people they understand," said Betsy Peyton, the director of WellAWARE. "So these community health workers come from the same neighborhood. They are in much more of a position to talk to someone about why they should get a COVID vaccine."
There will be up to 40 different organizations at the event to discuss topics related to street safety, environmental well-being, and health.
The event will be held at Booker T. Washington Park on July 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
