CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- For the second time, a festival will be celebrating Black excellence in Central Virginia.

The IX Art Park Foundation, Chic and Classy Image Consulting, and 101.3 JAMZ will be hosting the second annual Soul of Cville Festival on the second weekend of August.

“The Soul of Cville is so important this year because it marks the fifth year anniversary of [Aug. 12, 2017],” said IX Art Park advisory board member Khalilah Jones, owner of Chic and Classy Image Consulting. “What we want to do with the festival this year is to reclaim that day as our own and like the Phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes, coming back better than ever and C’ville strong like only Charlottesville can do.”

There will be live music and performances, a fashion show, a Black artisan market featuring local vendors, food from local Black-owned restaurants and more.

There will also be a free screening of Do the Right Thing, a 1989 film, as part of the Ix Flix program on Aug. 12.

“The Art Park is more than a collection of murals and sculptures. It serves as a safe and welcoming place in Charlottesville for creative expression and radical inclusion of all members of our community,” said Alex Bryant, the Executive Director of the IX Art Park Foundation. “We are honored to host this important festival again and are excited to see our community celebrate and showcase its Black excellence that exists year-round.”

People will be able to attend the festival, which will take place Aug. 12 through 14, thanks to the support of the Albemarle County Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Molson Coors, Ting Charlottesville, Crutchfield, Wegmans, Champion Brewing, Waterbird Spirits, and others.
