CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- You can now get your hands on an easy way to play the Virginia Lottery.

A user-friendly app was developed by the Charlottesville-based company WillowTree.

The company said the app helps make the lottery competitive with other mobile gaming apps like FanDuel and DraftKings.

By law, all proceeds from the Virginia Lottery go to benefit K-12 education in the state. The lottery brought in hundreds of millions of dollars last year.

Adam Nemett, the director of brand and content strategy for WillowTree, said the app has been a huge revenue generator for the Virginia Lottery, and therefore a huge revenue generator for education.

"That was exciting for our team, once we realized, 'Hey, if people are going to participate in mobile gaming, might as well do it in a way that can benefit Virginia,'" Nemett said.

The app is available to download for free on iPhones and Androids. Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing is expected to be about $530 million.
