RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Jason Emmel from Louisa, who arrowed a blue catfish weighing 66 pounds and five ounces from the Pamunkey River, set a new state record for archery blue catfish.

The fish measured three feet and six inches in length and had a girth of 35 inches.

After biologist verification and review by the State Record Committee, Emmel’s catch was certified and is recognized as the current Virginia Archery State Record Blue Catfish.

The previous record was held by William Bates, Jr. who caught a 62 pound and four ounce blue catfish in 2021 from Occoquan Bay in Fairfax.
