CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Four Blue Ridge Health District facilities have now completed VisitAble Training Certification, aiming to improve disability inclusion.

BRHD reports the health departments in Charlottesville/Albemarle, Fluvanna County and Greene County as well as the Yancey Community Health Center are the facilities.

According to a release, VisitAble is a Charlottesville-based startup that helps public and private organizations become advocates for disability inclusion.

In order to earn certification, BRHD employees received disability etiquette and inclusion training and the facilities were assessed to provide accessibility feedback and advice.

Finally, a mystery guest with a disability visited each facility to provide their own feedback.

All four of the facilities are listed on VisitAble's website with accessibility information to help current and prospective visitors navigate them.

“The staff members were very easy to work with, and made sure to train as many staff as possible, including contractors," said Joe Jamison, Founder of VisitAble. "We were impressed with the adjustable-height examination tables and the fact that there was an interpreter system in place for the four locations we worked with.”

The release says these were the first four health-related and the first state government-run facilities that have completed this training process.

BRHD says this is a step toward making disability inclusion a priority.
