SHENANDOAH COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- An investigation is underway into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday night in Shenandoah County.

The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office and the Woodstock Police Department have asked the Virginia State Police to investigate the incident.

According to police, the incident occurred around 10:05 p.m. Monday on the 1100 block of Copp Road.

Law enforcement officers responded to a report of a suicidal person, and when they arrived at the scene, they found 64-year-old Sean C. McCormick in an agitated state.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area and attempted to de-escalate the situation through negotiation.

McCormick reportedly fired a gun multiple times while inside the home and then came out of it, armed with a gun.

Officers fired their weapons and hit him several times.

McCormick was taken to the Winchester Medical Center for treatment, where he later died of his injuries.

His remains will be taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner as part of the investigation.

No officers or other people were hurt during this incident.
