CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia linebacker Nick Jackson added more preseason accolades as one of 90 players named to the Bednarik Award watch list, annually given to the nation's top defensive player.

Jackson was one of 15 players from the ACC to make the preseason Bednarik Award watch list. The senior was also recently included on the preseason Butkus Award watch list for the second straight year.

As a junior, Jackson led the ACC in tackles with 117 on his way to earning second team All-ACC accolades, the only Cavalier on defense to earn all-conference honors. Jackson also contributed six tackles for loss and six quarterback hurries in the middle of the Virginia defense.

In three seasons, Jackson has started 23 games for UVA and accumulated 250 tackles, 56 away from cracking the program's top-15 all-time. If Jackson tops 100-plus tackles for the third straight year, he will join Charles McDaniel (1982-84), Jon Copper (2006-08) and Micah Kiser (2015-17) as the only Cavaliers to do so in three consecutive seasons.
