AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office reports an escaped inmate is still on the loose.

According to a release, several buildings were searched in Highland County on Tuesday. A roadblock was also put in place on Route 250 at the Augusta/Highland county line.

Shaun Gwin was being transported to the Middle River Regional Jail after a court appearance on multiple Highland County charges.

He escaped by kicking out the window of a deputy’s vehicle near the line between Augusta and Highland counties.

To facilitate the search, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office deployed its Mobile Command Post at the Mountain View General Store in Deerfield.

Law enforcement officers searched the area for many hours but have not been able to find Gwin.

Deputies from the patrol division, the Investigations Division, the K-9 unit and of the Drone Team participated in the search for Gwin.

Officials also interviewed people who know Gwin.
