Keswick Vineyards wins Best Winery at VRLTA Ordinary Awards

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Keswick Vineyards was recognized as the Winery of the Year at the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging, and Travel Associations 2022 Ordinary Awards.
The Ordinary Awards recognize 23 individuals and organizations in four categories. Awards are given to an honoree that "demonstrates exemplary passion for the hospitality and travel industry." Award categories include travel, lodging, restaurant, and beverage.
While just 23 awards were given out this year, more than 150 organizations and individuals were nominated. Keswick Vineyards and James River Brewery in Scottsville were both recognized in the beverage category.
There are more than 300 wineries in Virginia, and Stephen Barnard, the winemaker at Keswick Vineyards, says it's not just a testament to the people he works with and the wine that is made at the vineyard. He thinks it is good for the whole Monticello American Viticultural Area.
"I'm thrilled that someone thinks we're doing a really wonderful job, but again the biggest thing is it's going to serve the industry and the 42 wineries on the Monticello Wine Trail, and hopefully it puts the spotlight on the Virginia Wine Industry, which is the greater good, right," Barnard said. "Let's keep it local, and be proud local, and drink local."
October is Virginia Wine Month and Barnard says it was particularly nice to be recognized to kick off the month.
