CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- For this year’s midterms, the University of Virginia Center for Politics says this year’s midterm elections will focus on certain issues.

These include abortion access rights, election administration, immigration policies, and the legalization of recreational marijuana.

According to Sabato’s Crystal Ball, abortion will be one of the most closely watched issues, with three states voting on protecting access rights and two considering allowing limitations.

Other ballot issues voters will see across the country include health care, labor laws, gun rights and minimum wage.

Voters will also be selecting who will sit in the U.S. House of Representatives. Republican incumbent Bob Good and Democratic incumbent Abigail Spanberger will face off against Josh Throneburg and Yesli Vega respectively.

There are also several local races appearing on ballots in some precincts, including the Scottsville Town Council, the Stanardsville Town Council, the mayor of Mineral, the Madison County School Board, and the Gordonsville Town Council.

The Center for Politics will also be hosting a special event on Tuesday regarding election security.

This event will take place in the UVA Rotunda Dome Room and feature former Representative Barbara Comstock as well as UVA’s Chris Krebs and Siva Vaidhyanathan and Renee DiResta from the Stanford Internet Observatory.
