CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia men's basketball was selected to finish third in the ACC Preseason Media Poll with North Carolina voted as the overwhelming preseason favorite.

The Cavaliers came in behind the Tar Heels and No. 2 Duke, but finished with the third most first place votes.

Miami, Florida State, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Syracuse rounded out the top eight in the preseason poll. Wake Forest, NC State, Clemson, Louisville, Boston College, Pitt and Georgia Tech filled out the bottom half of the conference.

UVA senior forward Jayden Gardner was the Cavaliers lone representative on the Preseason All-ACC team, garnering second team honors. Gardner led Virginia in scoring (15.3 points per game) and rebounding (6.4) last season, while picking up third-team all-conference accolades.

UNC's Armando Bacot was voted as the Preseason ACC Player of the Year and was joined by teammate Caleb Love, Miami's Isaiah Wong, NC State's Terquavion Smith and Duke's Jeremy Roach on the first team. The second team included Duke freshman Derek Lively II -- who was also named the Preseason ACC Freshman of the Year -- Virginia Tech's Justyn Mutts, Clemson's PJ Hall and UNC's RJ Davis alongside Gardner.
