CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The 2023 Finance Career and Leadership Academy is a free high school program designed to provide in-depth financial instruction to students, courtesy of Virginia National Bank. But time is running out to apply.

“We want to make sure that everyone hears about the application, so that everyone gets the opportunity to apply and that’s where we are right now, the application process. So the students right now are filling out the applications, writing their essays and submitting those. We have until Nov. 30. That is our deadline,” said Meghan Crider, Director of Special Projects at Virginia National Bank and FCLA Director.

After the application deadline, the process is fairly simple.

“Nov. 30 is the deadline and we are spending the month of December going through all the applications and reading all the essays," added Crider. "Then we will be setting up with the final candidates, the ones that we are considering for it, one-on-one interviews with the committee.”

Glenn Rust, the CEO of Virginia National Bank, explains what the selective committee looks for in prospective candidates.

“We are looking at the whole students, some have a lot of extracurriculars, some are in AP courses. So when we look at that application, it’s going to be what is the total student doing," he said. "That’s more important to us because remember anybody that succeeds in this class has a chance for a college scholarship and of course employment at Virginia National Bank.”

Applications must be submitted no later than Nov. 30. For more information and to apply, click here.
